Another Accident at Forest & Bayham – How Many More Before Action is Taken?

Writer: emmavanrooyenemmavanrooyen

This week, tragically, yet another accident occurred at the Forest Road and Bayham Road junction, marking the third crash this year alone. Last year, there were six accidents at the same spot. The question we keep asking—without getting any real answers—is: How many more accidents will it take before the council takes this issue seriously?

Forest Rd is A Dangerous Road with Confusing Signs

Forest Road remains an anomaly in road safety. It’s a fully residential road, surrounded by 30mph zones, yet large sections remain stuck at 40mph. The signage is inconsistent and confusing, making it difficult for drivers to adjust their speed appropriately. This is not just an oversight—it’s a dangerous failure of traffic management that puts lives at risk every single day.

Residents Have Been Fighting for Over 20 Years

The council tries to fob us off saying that residents don’t care about this issue. For over 20 years, there have been petitions and requests to lower the speed limit. None, however, have gained as much visibility and momentum as ours. Since launching in January 2024, our campaign has been working tirelessly to push for change. Our coalition has been going door to door, speaking with residents, and gathering signatures. Our petition has already surpassed 1,420 signatures, showing just how urgent and widespread this concern is.

We’re Speaking to the Council – Will They Finally Listen?

Tonight, we are meeting with the council to ensure they fully understand the scale of this issue. The time for excuses and delays is over. We refuse to wait for a fatal accident before action is taken. This road must be reduced to 30mph—no ifs, ands, or buts.

We need your help to keep the pressure on. If you haven’t already, please sign and share our petition. https://www.change.org/Frant_Road_Safety

The more signatures we collect, the louder our voices will be. Please share the petition and stay updated on our campaign.

It shouldn’t take tragedy to spur action. Let’s make sure it doesn’t come to that.
